“Maintaining one’s culture, values and traditions is beyond price.”

Our heritage is one of the most important values we receive from our parents and often, these values are passed on to future generations.

In Jesus we see an outstanding example of living one’s heritage. He inherited his Jewishness from his parents. He lived his life according to the tenets of Judaism. He was observant of the Sabbath and paid his dues to the Temple and to the State.

His life philosophy was:

Love yourself, Love neighbour, Love God.

He certainly prayed: “I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness and your saving help. I do not conceal your love and your faithfulness from the great assembly.” (Psalm 40: 10)

As we celebrate Heritage Day this year, let it not be just about taking time off to braai, but a true celebration of our rich and diverse heritage that makes us the rainbow nation that we are.

Let this day be a reminder of the need to continuously look out for each other: “loving self and loving neighbour as we love ourselves” bringing us closer together. We can make South Africa a better place for  all: “it is in our hands to make the difference.”

Happy Heritage Day.

With love & blessings
